If you have had Invisalign for a while, you likely have your routine with them down. While at home, you became a pro at cleaning them and your smile. It has only become more efficient over time, but what if you have a trip coming up? You might be a bit worried about getting any delays during their treatment, but there are easy tips you can follow! Here are three that help patients while they are travelling.
1.) Plan Ahead
Although excursions that last for weeks or months are exciting, it’s important that you bring spare aligners. You’ll need to swap over to your next set every week or so to keep your Invisalign going as planned. However, if you don’t, then you’ll need to wear some trays for longer than expected. This can eventually lead to delays.
Not only that, but be sure to pack an extra, smaller pouch of your dental essentials! This can be helpful if you know you’ll be exploring your destination and trying different foods. By having a separate bag that you can carry on the go, you can trust you’re never far from what you need to clean out your trays and teeth. It doesn’t hurt to keep an extra case in there as well.
2.) Keep A Few Water Bottles Handy
As you are driving or flying to your journey’s end, the restrooms that you’ll use may not be the cleanest. It’s easy to be grossed out by them, so using the sink water might be out of the question for you! A great way around this is by having some spare water bottles. You’ll be able to use them to wet your toothbrush or to swish around your mouth.
3.) Stick with Getting Your Full Wear Time
Once you get to your temporary home, you may be excited to finally relax. Your stressors are far behind you, and you can truly unwind in a new place. However, while being carefree can be nice, it’s important you’re still diligent in your aligner routine. If you don’t get the full wear time for 20 to 22 hours, then you can experience delays in your treatment.
To help keep you on track, you might find it helpful to set alarms and timers before you eat. These can remind you to pop your Invisalign trays back in before you forget. Many people often download an app on their phone, such as TrayMinder, as a great way to remember.
While you should look forward to your trip, your aligners shouldn’t be a cause of stress for you. Consider following these tips, and all that’s left for you to do is have safe travels!
